Metropolitano guide: Atlético de Madrid at home
Atlético is Madrid's other great club, with an identity all its own: a fighting club, fans known for their passion, and a modern, fully covered stadium. Here's how to experience a match there.
- ≈ 70,000capacity
- 2017opened
- Line 7metro to the ground
- Coveredevery seat under the roof
Getting to Madrid
| Arriving at | To the ground or centre | Approx. time |
|---|---|---|
| Barajas airport | Taxi to the nearby stadium; or metro line 8 to the centre | ≈ 15 to 20 min by taxi |
| By train | Atocha and Chamartín stations (high speed from Barcelona, Seville, Valencia) | ≈ 2 h 30 from Barcelona |
The Metropolitano is in the east of Madrid, on the way to the airport: a match on your arrival or departure day is very doable.
From the centre to the ground
- Metro line 7: Estadio Metropolitano station, right at the stadium. From the centre (Sol, Gran Vía), allow 30 to 40 minutes with one change.
- Las Rosas station (line 2): an alternative about fifteen minutes on foot, often less crowded afterwards.
- Bus: extra services run on matchdays from several districts.
Tap your contactless card at the gates or buy a rechargeable transport card.
Buying an official ticket
- Official ticket office on atleticodemadrid.com. Season ticket holders and members buy first, then seats often go on public sale.
- Liga matches: for most fixtures, an official seat is easier to find than at the Bernabéu, and often cheaper.
- Big games (Madrid derby, Barça, Champions League): very high demand, buy as soon as sales open.
Avoid unofficial resellers: inflated prices and sometimes invalid tickets.
Where to sit
- Fondo Sur: behind the goal, the singing section, standing and chanting all match.
- Fondo Norte: the other end, calmer and often cheaper.
- Lateral Este and Oeste: the side stands, best view of the game.
The roof covers every seat and keeps the noise in: even up high the atmosphere is impressive.
