Getting to Manchester
| Arriving at | Into the city | Approx. time |
|---|---|---|
| Manchester airport | Train to Manchester Piccadilly, or the Metrolink tram | ≈ 20 min by train |
| London | Direct train from Euston to Manchester Piccadilly | ≈ 2 h 10 |
| Liverpool | Direct train to Manchester | ≈ 35 to 50 min |
Before you go: most overseas visitors, including EU and Swiss citizens, need an Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) to enter the UK, from the official gov.uk site.
From the centre to the ground
The Etihad is about 3 km east of the centre, on the Etihad Campus sports site.
- Metrolink tram: Ashton line, Etihad Campus stop, right outside the stadium. About 10 minutes from Piccadilly.
- On foot: 25 to 30 minutes from Piccadilly, following the crowd along Ashton New Road.
- Train: the small Ashburys station is about fifteen minutes' walk away.
Pay for the tram with your contactless card (tap in and out on the platform). After the match the tram queue is long: walking back to the centre is often just as quick.
Buying an official ticket
- Official ticket office at mancity.com/tickets. For big Premier League games, sales are for season ticket holders and club members.
- Membership: gives priority. For less in-demand matches, seats are sometimes offered more widely.
- Official resale: season ticket holders can put their seat back on sale through the club, at face value.
- Hospitality: the safest route for a specific date.
The North Stand expansion added thousands of seats: it's one of the big English grounds where your odds are best.
Watch out: in the UK, reselling a football ticket without the club's permission is a criminal offence. Avoid unofficial resale sites.
Where to sit
- South Stand: behind the goal, three tiers, with many of the singing fans. The away section is in one corner of this stand.
- North Stand: the expanded stand behind the other goal, with new fan spaces.
- Colin Bell Stand and East Stand: the side stands, best view of the game.
Typical budget

Matchday tips
- Arrive early: the area outside the stadium comes alive well before kick-off.
- Most purchases at the stadium are by card: bring one.
- The Manchester derby against United is the most anticipated game of the season: tickets are even scarcer.
