The real challenge: the ticket

Anfield sells out every match. There is almost no general sale: you have to go through the club's system.

1. Become an All Red member

The annual All Red membership (or its lighter version) gives access to member sales, usually by ballot. Membership doesn't guarantee a ticket, and some big games are reserved for members who have already built up a match history.

2. The Ticket Exchange

The only official resale platform: supporters put their tickets back at face value. You need to be a member and check often; tickets go in seconds.

3. Hospitality

Hospitality packages (meal, guaranteed seat) are sold by the club and its official travel partners. It's expensive, but the safest route for a visitor who needs a specific date.

Beware of resale sites: in the UK, reselling a football ticket without the club's permission is a criminal offence. Anfield tickets are digital and tied to the holder's account; the club cancels resold tickets and has issued stadium bans. A ticket bought from an unofficial site can be refused at the gate, with no refund.

Getting to Liverpool

John Lennon airportExpress bus to the city centre≈ 30 to 40 min
Manchester airportDirect train to Liverpool Lime Street≈ 1 h to 1 h 30
LondonDirect train from Euston to Liverpool Lime Street≈ 2 h 15

Manchester airport has many more international flights: it's often the simplest option, and lets you add a match at Old Trafford.

Before you go: most overseas visitors, including EU and Swiss citizens, need an Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) to enter the UK. Apply a few days before you travel on the official gov.uk site.

From the centre to Anfield

Anfield is about 3 km north-east of the centre, up a hill. Walking is doable, but it climbs.

Get there early: the streets around the ground, pubs like The Albert right next to the Kop, and the anthem before kick-off are all part of it.

Where to sit

In practice, with the ballot system, you don't always choose your stand: take what comes up.

FAQ

How do I get a ticket for Anfield?

Most tickets are sold to All Red members, often by ballot, and official resale goes through the club's Ticket Exchange. For a visitor, the other reliable route is hospitality sold by the club or its official partners.

Can I buy a Liverpool ticket on a resale site?

Strongly discouraged. In the UK, reselling a football ticket without the club's permission is an offence, tickets are digital and tied to an account, and the club cancels resold tickets.

How do I get to Anfield from Liverpool city centre?

The 917 express bus leaves near Lime Street and takes about 15 minutes. Bus 17 leaves from Queen Square. Or take Merseyrail to Sandhills, then the Soccerbus.

Do I need permission to enter the UK?

Yes for most overseas visitors, including EU and Swiss citizens: an Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA), applied for before you travel, plus a valid passport or accepted ID.
